The Sacramento PC Users Group encourages all prospective volunteers to contact the Volunteer Manager with ideas for positions and activities at all levels of expertise. The following job descriptions may be helpful.

Editor-in-Chief
The EC's duties are rather regimented--the duties are listed by several specific deadlines. This list outlines the normal routine every month. (There may be more information added to this in the future (e.g., converting the issue into electronic form for posting on our Web site.)
- 3rd Wednesday:
- This is the deadline for all contributions except the Meeting Report, Prez.com, and SIG and Chapter reports. Collect ads and contributions and either edit stories or distribute to copy editors. Also, clean out last PageMaker template and prepare tracking sheet to plan content for present issue.
- 4th Wednesday:
- By now, all contributions received have been edited. Notify managing editor of late contributors, edit any late submissions and get photos from General Meeting. Edit Meeting Report, refine plan of issue and update classified ads and contact information, if necessary. Begin layout.
- 4th Saturday:
- Select and convert clipart for inside pages. Receive membership count for inside front cover from membership chairperson. Complete full layout and send to proofreaders for final review.
- 1st Wednesday:
- Prepare printer's instructions for ad placement, cover, page count, photos, delivery dates, and special instructions. Deliver packet of materials to printer on 1st Wednesday morning.
- 1st Friday:
- Review blueline (proof) copy, replace any pages if necessary and sign off. Archive issue and clear space on hard drive.
- 2nd Wednesday:
- Prepare report and attend Steering Committee meeting.

Associate Editor
Responsible for editing and formatting articles assigned by the EC. May be required to write original articles on topics suggested by the EC. Support the EC as requested and required.

Managing Editor
Responsible for cajoling authors, columnists and department editors to submit their materials by deadline. Support the EC as requested and required.

eBlue Chief Editor
Responsible for the conversion of Sacra Blue into a Web-based online newsletter. If necessary, coordinate with the Volunteer Manager for the recruitment and management of a team of associate eBlue editors. Coordinates with the Sacra Blue EC for the timely receipt of articles and graphics, and with the Webmaster for the uploading of the newsletter into and the general management of the eBlue portion of the Web site.

Advertising Manager
Responsible for acquiring advertising for Sacra Blue. Includes setting advertising rates, managing accounts receivables, collecting ad copy and submitting materials to the EC. Create and maintain advertising promotional materials and information. Create and submit monthly reports at the Steering Committee meetings.
If necessary, create and manage a team of Advertising Representatives each of whom are responsible for maintaining contact with one or more individual advertisers and searches for additional potential advertisers within a defined geographic region.

Circulation Manager

Book Review Editor
Responsible for establishing and maintaining contact with the Public Relations/Book Reviews Departments of the various computer book publishers, requests their current book catalog and review copies of new and/or interesting books, seeks qualified SPCUG members interested in reviewing books, manages the book review process, and edits the reviews for a monthly Sacra Blue HardCopy column. Forwards copies of reviews (tearsheets) to the respective publishers.

Product Review Editors
Includes General Products, Game Products and Educational Products.
For each category, be responsible for contacting the Product Review departments of software publishers, requesting review copies of new and/or interesting titles, seeks qualified SPCUG members interested in reviewing software, manages the software review process, and edits the reviews for a respective monthly Sacra Blue reviews column. Forewards published reviews to the publishers.
General: Subjects include applications and utilities on the retail market.
Games: Subjects focused on entertainment.
Education: Subjects include applications, games and utilities of an educational nature, from pure teaching programs to music software, and the underlying technology that makes it possible for educational software to be more realistic.

Q&A Editor
Establish and maintain methods for permitting the General Public to submit questions (of computers and related technology) for research and resolution. Edits and submits these Q's and A's for the Sacra Blue monthly Q&A column. Currently, the primary sources of Q&A materials are:
- General Meeting Open-mike:
- Transcription provided by meeting reporter.
- General Meeting Q&A Table:
- Manned by the SPCUG Answer Guys. Encourage them to provide a transcription of their conversations.
- Q&A Box:
- Maintain box and provide blank forms, brought to the General Meeting and placed on the Q&A table (for those who do not have the time or inclination to ask their question(s) at the microphone or to the SPCUG Answer Guys). Questions placed in the box are distributed to knowledgable members of the Group for research and/or to the Listserves.
- Listserves:
- Submits questions and monitors the SPCUG Listserves. Collects and edits discussions.
- The SPCUG Web site:
- Materials provided by the SPCUG Answer Guys.
Sorts material by category and edits for brevity. The material is then sent to the Sacra Blue Technical Editors to be reviewed for accuracy. Cross-checks source material against final edit for clarity. Retains material for historical purposes. Carries over material not included in current issue to the next month's Q&A column.

General Editors
Includes Department Editors, Technical Editors, Copy Editors, and Proofreaders.
- Mentor List Coordinator
- Maintains the Mentor List making sure that all participants are members in good standing. Makes sure that the information about each mentor is as current as possible. Coordinates with the editors of Sacra Blue and with the Membership Director.
- Top
General Reporters
Includes Lead Meeting Reporter, Assistant Meeting Reporters, Meeting Transcriptionists, Photographer and Recording Equipment Technician.
Meeting Reporters take notes during the General Meeting (supplementing the audio recording). Acquires follow-up information such as Presenters' correctly spelled names and e-mail addresses, names of door prize winners, etc. The transcriptionists convert the audio recording into editable text. It is recommended they take notes during the meeting to clarify distortions on the tape. The Lead Meeting Reporter collects all reporter's notes, edits and submits comprehensive final report to Sacra Blue's EC.
The Recording Equipment Technician's single responsibility is to assure a clear audio record of the General Meeting for the Sacra Blue editors and reporters. The technician must be familiar with the tape recording equipment and meeting hall P.A. system, records and monitors the General Meeting, labels and distributes the recorded audio cassette tapes to the appropriate editors and reporters.
