Photoshop 5.5. Tip

Here's a quick little tip for you if you have this program.
Create Easy Web Buttons
First, make a new image in the approximate size you want your button to be. Choose Transparent for the background.

If you'd like the rounded-corner effect, make a Marquee selection with a feathered edge. (Select Marquee, then Options, then select a pixel size for the feathered edge. Five pixels may be a good starting point.)

Click on the QuickMask button to enter QuickMask mode.

From the Image menu, choose Image, then Adjust, then Brightness/Contrast. Move the Contrast slider all the way to 100 to remove the feathering. Move the Brightness slider to alter the size of the rectangle. Click OK.

Add a new layer. Choose Standard mode to exit QuickMask (or press Q). Fill the selection with color.

Go to Layer, Effects, then Bevel and Emboss to add an Inner Bevel to the object.

Add a Type layer, and use Layer, Effects, Bevel and Emboss to add a Pillow Emboss to the type.

Voila! A nice Web button. You can experiment with the different selections under Bevel and Emboss along with color variations to create the "On" and "Off" buttons for "mouseover" effects on the Web.
