At our Internet SIG meeting we talked about the ability to make a free long distance call over the Internet. Frank Waldo said he had used DialPad to make his calls and had nothing but good things to say about it. It's a free service; all you'll need is a sound card and microphone. A headset is preferable to speakers to eliminate feedback. You can get a headset/microphone set at any Radio Shack store. After reading the articles from PC World and USA Today, it seems worth the time and is very little trouble. You have to put up with banner ads, which is how they pay for the service, but I think most of us are adept at blanking them out, as they populate almost every Web page we go to.
We have elections coming up and the focus of the next meeting will be to take nominations for the elected positions. We'll also have out regular question and answer period, so come on up and check out Nevada County.
