Electronic Newsletter Work Very Productive

Ken Hopkins and Tom Anderson volunteered last month to produce an electronic newsletter to replace our paper version that has been put on hold. With Ken as the Layout Editor and Tom holding down the Content Editor position, these two have produced "one nice piece of work." I saw the paper presentation version of this electronic newsletter at the May Steering Committee meeting. A very professional looking graphically enhanced 35-page document that would feel comfortable on major newsstands throughout the Sacramento area. By my estimates and from statements made at the meeting, Tom and Ken have put in at least a combined 100 hours on this first draft. Get yours at the SPCUG Web site, www.sacpcug.com. If you are interested in helping Tom and Ken out with this project by joining the newsletter board, contact Tom Anderson.

New Volunteers
Diana DeMuth volunteered to be our new Asst. Membership Person to replace Shirley Peterson. Shirley has moved out of the area and won't be able to remain in the position. Shirley has been active for some time in this position and at the MS Extreme Event, and I thank her for the conscientious work that she performed for the group over the years.

Later in the month, Marsha Leonard resigned as Membership Director and Diana agreed to move up and take on the responsibility of that job. Marsha has held down the Membership Director position since Sandra Benward gave it up quite a while ago. Thanks for your long service, Marsha!

Gordon Taylor and Jonathan Bernard did some on-the-spot volunteer work for us at the April general meeting by supervising the "Larry Clark Donation Sales Table." Larry brought in a large quantity of new and used computer products to be sold, with proceeds donated to the SPCUG. Larry has held, among many other SPCUG jobs, the positions of President and Newsletter Editor. Thank you, Larry, Jonathan, and Gordon-this was a valiant effort.

Jonathan Bernard helped again at the May meetings selling some ink jet printer cartridges that Ken Hopkins acquired. The proceeds from the sale went to SPCUG treasury. Thank you again Jonathon and Ken.

Carol Harris has taken over as the Slide Show Presenter. You may know Carol as the SIG leader for the WordPerfect SIG. She did the presentation that we saw at the May meeting. Thank you Carol for filling this important position.

Job Openings
1. Educational Training Coordinator -- The educational training coordinator position is a high-visibility position that will help SPCUG further its mission of educating the community about Intel-compatible computers.

In 1998, the SPCUG Education Committee presented the Steering Committee with several recommendations for enhancing SPCUG's educational offerings. Two of those recommendations became reality: the training media library and pre-meeting tutorials. The Education Committee also recommended that an Education Training Coordinator who could form a committee to focus solely on expanding the SPCUG's educational efforts so our group can increase its value to the community.

2. Web Team Member--We can always use more members for the eBlue Web Team. If you have some HTML editing experience, your help is greatly needed on the eBlue Web Team. Whether you have experience or just have a desire to learn basic HTML in an effort to help us, contact Brian Smither.

I am sure you will find volunteer work for the group very rewarding, and it could even create some interesting opportunities for you. You may be surprised how little time is involved in some of the positions that hold great benefit for the group. Please look at the job openings above. If you think you can help the group, give me a call or drop me e-mail.
