Successes are Adding Up

One of the cool things about the Internet is that you can work anywhere in the world. I am currently in Spokane, WA for a week-and-a-half vacation, visiting relatives and enjoying the Fourth of July. On my way up here, I realized that I forgot to write my column before I left and I had started a template back in my office 600 miles away! So I am using this computer to access my machine at home in order to finish this article. Since my machines are directly connected to the Internet, and I have several static IP numbers and they are firewall-protected, I can retrieve documents while everyone else is securely locked out.

First, I'll have to say that our group email system has a few new features but it still needs more work. The main system change is that I can now add up to ten email aliases for each user. In other words, our membership director, Diana DeMuth, can have an email address of diana.demuth@sacpcug.org. I can also add an alias of membership@sacpcug.org. Diana can have up to ten such aliases, so if she takes on any other activities, she could have another email address for each. Hopefully not- she is doing a lot of work as it is and I would hate it to see her take on anything else. Speaking of that, Diana is doing such a good job- we received over $4,000 worth of memberships last month. We owe her a lot of thanks for a job well done.

SPCUG Volunteers Bring Success
The SPCUG is doing very well. I was just in the other room bragging about how well our group is doing, telling my relatives that our group is changing with the growing success of the Internet. This is all because of the volunteers we have! I am not sure where our group would be if we had not changed the way we did and with the success of eBlue with Brian Smither's efforts and Sacra Blue and Tom Anderson's efforts of editorship and Ken Hopkins' efforts with the layout. And of course the postcards we send out each month so users can be reminded of the upcoming meeting and where to download the Sacra Blue PDF file. These are just the bigger jobs that are recognized each month, but there are several other jobs that are performed behind the scenes and need to be recognized. The slide show is produced with several hours of work each month. My thanks to Tim Cardozo, who did this for years before passing it on. Tim is doing vendor coordination now.

We also have volunteers, our 'Welcome Committee,' pass out tickets each month so users can win those great doorprizes. And the biggest thanks I need to mention is to our current Treasurer Don Frieze, who is doing a great job keeping our finances in order!

This group can always use volunteers and the person who organizes this is Stan Morris. He has done a great job throughout the years. If you are interested to getting involved with the group please contact him, or just show up at one of our Steering Committee meetings the week before our main meeting. Many thanks to all that care enough about our group to stay involved during our times of changes.
