President Dick Towle started the meeting at 7:30 PM after spending some time replacing a blown lamp in the overhead projector. Right off the bat he gave a rundown on his recent visit to the nuclear submarine open to the public. He waxed eloquently on the ins and outs of this sub... remember he was in the Navy back when there were only diesels. He gave a very interesting synopsis of what a nuclear sub is and what it can do, etc.
Then the web master started taking photos of the members present for inclusion in the web page for members and their e-mail addresses. Still lots of photos to take, so it is hoped that members will come to the meeting next month and make the album complete.
After answering some Q and A things about the best lap-top computer to buy, taking all things into consideration... it was recommended to buy a refurbished Dell for about $1,200 that will do everything one really needs to do.
After the regular drawing of prizes to members, the secretary unloaded many books and software items, many rather old, but still useable... and everybody went home afterwards with lots of goodies. Those left over were donated to the library for gifts to the "kids" and anyone else they felt would profit by them.
Refreshments were served as usual. It was noted that December will be a vacation... NO MEETNG!
The President asked everyone to think about electing a new president since he was not running for a third term. The Secretary said that he would be willing to serve again if wanted, and the web master also said he would continue on as long as everyone did not object. Yeah, Right! Who wants the job?
Discussion was on how to get presenters of programs to come to a small gathering in the foothills. Tough, but we will keep trying to bring quality programs in the future.
Meeting was adjourned at 9:00 PM. The next meeting date is on the second Wednesday, November 8, 2000 in the Beecher Room of the Placer County Library located at 350 Nevada Street, Auburn, California starting at 7:00 PM.
