Highlights From the September Steering Committee Meeting
|
- Financial Report
- Don Frieze reports another good month, with a $2,000 positive cash flow. The membership renewals have begun to level off. We are ahead of the projected budget by a significant amount ($7,000). Advertising may potentially pay our entire monthly expenses.
- Membership
- Membership Director Diana DeMuth reports we now have 710 paid-up members.
- Public Relations
- Word is getting out. Some meeting visitors report having found out about the meeting from publications that used our press release.
- Sacra Blue
- In an effort to shrink the size of the PDF file, Ken Hopkins is putting all regularly included material, including the Mentor List, in a Member’s Guide.
A motion was approved to create a Members Guide (PDF, password encrypted) to include the Mentor's List and place it on the Web site.
Complimentary copies of Sacra Blue (now the postcard) will be winnowed away to only those who have verified addresses and have a need for it. Motion approved.
Efforts are underway to bring off the mark to The Sacramento Bee so we can then use it, and two other cartoon series have been added to the regular column lineup.
Fifty-two pages in the September issue and things had to be left out. Ken Hopkins decided to publish only the smaller ‘display-resolution' version.
Ken will take several issues of Sacra Blue to Comdex, and use them to entice speakers and product donations. Burn a hundred or so CDs of past issues ($250). Motion passed.
- eBlue
- An easier method of indicating how one should download Sacra Blue has been implemented on the home page.
- Mentor List
- Stan Morris will e-mail mentors to ask about their continued participation but is waiting for more information from Ken Hopkins.
- APCUG
- Elections coming up at COMDEX.
- SIGs
- Jim Lockhart wishes to start a Digital Imaging SIG meeting in Roseville. Motion approved. Roseville Chapter moved to a new location. PDA SIG may dissolve or move out from under SPCUG.
- August's Main Meeting
- Committee felt AMD presentation was too technical. There were too many questions, and the microphone was not being used so the questions couldn't be heard. Don't be late to the meeting if you really want a door prize ticket.
September Main Meeting will feature Microsoft Windows 2000 and Millenium
Future Main Meetings: Motion passed to approve these speakers.
- Oct: Homegrown presentation on MP3
- Nov: Shareware demonstrations by members
- Dec: Parallax
- Jan: RoboHelp
- Mar: Quicken
