The acquisition of a digital image with the scanner's twain driver and controls were demonstration. First, the twain's monitor calibration controls were demonstrated. Then, adjusting the twain's scanning resolution and a pre-scan were next. Finally, the twain's brightness and contrast controls were adjusted for the final scan.
The manipulation portion was demonstrated after the adjustments to the twain drive were made. An image was scanned into Corel Photo Paint 9. Cropping, color correction, minor blemish corrections, and resampling to the final size, were demonstrated.
First the image was cropped to the size that would be used for the final presentation. Then, color corrections were done using the brightness, contrast, and intensity slide bars, along with the color variation control. Using another set of Corel's tools, minor imperfections were removed.
Finally, the image was resampled to the proper file size, so it could be used in a presentation.
Presentation of a newsletter done in Microsoft's Publisher was shown. Some of the images had been scanned and others were acquired with other digital devices. But all the images had been manipulated in Corel Photo Paint 9 before their inclusion in the newsletter.
The next meeting of the Digital Imaging Group will be at 7 o'clock on December 5, 2000, at the Maidu Community Center, 1550 Maidu Drive, Roseville.
The program will be the scanning of black-and-white negatives and reversing the negatives into positives.
