Highlights From the November Steering Committee Meeting
|
- Roll Call:
- Meeting called to order. Sizzler's reservation system caused us to not have the meeting room. Start looking for another place to meet.
- Minutes Approved as Corrected:
- Membership numbers are restored wherever possible to those who had them earlier-not necessarily to recycle numbers. Chamber of Commerce dues are $215 annually, not $250 as recorded.
- Membership:
- Membership is 679. Membership Director wished to develop a "tickle-me" report and letter for those whose memberships have lapsed at the one-year anniversary. 93 renewals, 6 new memberships.
Steering Committee is kicking around an idea of lowering the dues. Further discussion and investigation is needed for when, how much, and any prorating structure.
- Chamber of Commerce:
- Roy Korb presented several more facets and benefits to joining the Chamber of Commerce.
- Sacra Blue:
- We need more writers. The November issue is the most important because Sacra Blue is our avenue of recognition at Comdex. But it was the hardest to assemble because much of the regular content is missing. Tom and Ken wrote a lot more than is typical to fill pages. The October meeting report tape experienced technical difficulties.
The CDs that are being done for Comdex are coming along nicely. There will be a whole year's worth of Sacra Blue. We will have them mass-produced by a commercial foundry. Cost is about $1 each at 1000. Plans are to use the small size. If we use the normal size, we can put shareware on it. But it was pointed out that shareware goes out of date quickly. However, those who don't have a fast connection will still appreciate it. They will be mailed to members. We need to discover mailing costs.
For Comdex, SPCUG will purchase 300 copies of a Sacra Blue flyer, black on light blue. (Colored ink must usually be scheduled on a certain day. We don't have the luxury of time.) Motion passed.
- Web site / eBlue:
- Ken was advised to send to the eBlue editor the photos he adds to articles. The shareware library has been uploaded to the FTP site.
- Volunteer Positions:
- New volunteer positions requested: Retail location liaison/coordinator, flyer maintenance person, researcher for a buyer's guide of local computer stores, assistant for Ken's SPCUG history time-line project (need scans of Sacra Blue covers-long-term project), calendar editor.
- October's Main Meeting:
- A huge amount of interest generated about MP3. Audience appreciative of "home-grown" approach. Again, Dennis Duffy (and everyone else) need to be reminded to take their conversations outside.
- November Main Meeting:
- Favorite shareware by Tom Anderson and Frank Leonard.
- Future Main Meetings: Motion passed.
- Dec—Parallax and eGems
Jan—RoboHelp and Genealogy
Feb—Nominations open
Mar—Quicken and Elections
- Chapters/SIGs:
- Should SPCUG reinstate chapter support? Chapter reporting compliance in the past has been dismal. Perhaps SPCUG might support a Chapter when they need to purchase a major item. Essentially, support is not re-instated at this time.
