Highlights From the March Steering Committee Meeting

Treasurer Don Frieze reported that the group had another good month financially. For the month, net income was $704, putting the group $10,000 ahead of budget. But the insurance bill, one of the group’s biggest annual expenses, will be due next month. The insurance company wants a report of the square footage of all meeting places for chapters and SIGs. Chapter/SIG Coordinator Gary Sloan will gather the information.

Don also reported that SPCUG’s Form 990, the IRS form that reports finances of a nonprofit organization, is available for anyone who wishes to see it, as required by law.

In addition, the IRS-990 form can be viewed on the Web.

Elections will be held at the next general meeting, on March 21. Currently nominated are: Milt Hull for president; Tom Anderson, Gary Sloan, and Tim Cardozo for vice president; Don Frieze for Treasurer; and Brian Smither for secretary.

The committee discussed the merits of hiring a professional transcriptionist for the general meetings. The discussion came as a result of Tom Anderson’s report that Sacra Blue would be delayed because of the time involved in having volunteers transcribe the meeting.

Membership Director Diana DeMuth reported membership is at 604, as of March 1. She said she has sent out a mailing to members whose membership had recently expired, encouraging them to take a second look at renewing.

A discussion ensued about the desirability of enabling renewal by credit card over the Internet. The general sentiment was that it is not a feasible option.

President Milt Hull reported he had input the names for all the @sacpcug.org e-mail addresses, and had sent instructions by e-mail to all members on how to access the system.

The committee voted to recognize the Financial Investing Group as an Associated Computer Organization (ACO). SPCUG member Bernard Scoville is the contact person.
