WordPerfect 2002 Is Released

The WordPerfect SIG met at its new time and location on May 24th. The news is that WordPerfect 2002 (WP10) is now out and there is already a Service Pack 1 available for it. There is also a new Service Pack 4 for WP9. Both can be obtained from Corel.

Dennis brought in a copy of the new version which we proceeded to install. A typical install (without Paradox) is 280 MBytes (380 with Dragon Dictate). The install took about 20 minutes and was very seamless.

We didn't find any really earth-shattering changes in the program. According to Corel, over 70 percent of the new features and enhancements are based directly on customer requests. The product is reported to be more stable, more compatible, and more powerful than ever. There are enhancements to Publish-to-PDF and HTML; Real-Time Preview; the ability to share files with Microsoft Word users; easy document formatting with Reveal Codes; and variables.

QuattroPro 10 has enhanced charting capabilities; the ability to share files with Microsoft Excel Users; a large notebook size; and dynamic cross tab reports. CorelCENTRAL 10 includes mail, groupware calendar, compatibility, and PalmPilot™ compatibility. Corel Presentations 10 has Macromedia Flash support, MP3 sound support, animated GIF support, and the ability to share files with Microsoft PowerPoint users.

At Corel, you can also find AnswerPerfect Application Information, which is technical support and/or configuration support only. Certain conditions have to be met to be eligible for this and all details can be found on the site.

If you have problems or questions with WordPerfect or any part of the WP Suite, be sure to come meet with us on the 4th Thursday of the month from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.

Carol Harris heads the WordPerfect Special Interest Group and prepares the slide show presentation for SPCUG's general meetings.
