The Business Portion of the Main Meeting

President Milt Hull opened the meeting, SPCUG's 19th birthday, by thanking Jonathan Bernard for picking up the cakes for the celebration.

Milt reminded members that all are welcome at the Steering Committee, the governing group for SPCUG, which meets exactly one week before the general meeting.

Sacra Blue editors Tom Anderson and Ken Hopkins said the new issue is online and available for download. The issue totals 44 pages, Ken said. Tom noted they are beginning to use articles from other user group newsletters that provide useful information, including one this month about making "fill in the blank" forms in Microsoft Word.

Tom also said he had numerous links about Office XP in his "Click Here" column, including one for finding the best price.

Scholarship chairman Don Mongeau introduced another scholarship winner, Charlie Conroy from Oakridge High School. Charlie wants to be an astrophysicist, and was voted "Most Intelligent Student" by his peers.

Webmaster Brian Smither pointed out the link on the Web site to the Answer Guys, who provide free assistance on questions from beginner level to complex networking issues.

Brian also asked how many would take advantage of a real-time chat service with an Answer Guy on the Web site. He saw enough hands to warrant going ahead with the service, and said he would look into it further.

Milt thanked the volunteers who put together Sacra Blue and eBlue each month - Brian Smither, Tom Anderson, and Ken Hopkins - and added Mark Naber, the group's long-time photographer, noting that Mark has "gone digital," and is now using a Nikon digital camera rather than a film camera.

Ken Hopkins warned about a "bogus Microsoft message" that describes the "Leave Worm." The message includes a link to download a patch to block the worm, but the download is the actual worm itself.

Meeting planners Ken Hopkins and Milt discussed upcoming speakers, noting that Ztrace cancelled out as a speaker at the last minute.
