Highlights from the July Steering Committee Meeting

Ken Hopkins, co-editor of Sacra Blue, asked that someone volunteer to manage the publication and distribution of the Sacra Blue CD that he has been planning. Brian Smither expressed an interest, but has not committed to the project.

Treasurer Don Frieze reported a net gain for the present month of $593, leaving the group $1,700 under budget and $1,000 ahead of last year. He noted there are still three $250 scholarships to be paid out.

Webmaster Brian Smither reported that SPCUG's domain name almost expired because notices were being sent to former President Frank Leonard. Brian arranged payment, and President Milt Hull will work with Network Solutions to change the notification arrangements.

The imminent birthday of the group (in July) was noted, and a discussion ensued as to whether cake should be purchased, as it has in the past. Some wondered if it was appropriate when we no longer have the coffee service. It was decided to ask that Jonathan Bernard handle the details.

Membership director Diana DeMuth reported that membership is currently at 539 members, with no new members and 52 renewals during the month of June.

Content Editor Tom Anderson reported that transcription costs declined for the month, although they remain high. Research will continue to see what can be cut out of the transcription to reduce the cost.

Tom also announced he is stepping down as Book Review Editor and needs a replacement. He is also still looking for an Editor to handle games reviews.

Diana Lizarraga and Evelyn Kaehler presented a petition to start a SIG to discuss Web sites and all related topics. After a discussion, the petition was approved. Details of the SIG's meeting time and place have not been set.
