Treasurer Don Frieze reported the group made a profit last month, andthough income year-to-date is only a third of last year's. Spending is $600 under budget for the year.
Don also reported that the group's Post Office box was broken into on or about October 19th. It was decided to announce the fact at the general meeting, so anyone who might have sent a check around that time could be alerted.
Membership Director Diana DeMuth reported membership at 509, with 5 new members and 34 renewals, many of them at the membership table during the general meeting. Most new members discover the group through the publicity notices published in the Sacramento Bee, which are sent out by Publicity Director Diana DeMuth.
Sacra Blue Content Editor reported that Volunteer Coordinator has found a volunteer to fill the position of Assistant Editor, Don Murray, to help organize the newsletter writers and remind them of due dates.
Dennis Solheim volunteered to write part of the meeting report by writing up one speaker directly from the tapes the group makes, rather than having the material transcribed.
Since transcription is one of the group's largest expenses, Tom is making an effort to locate other volunteers to write up the presentations without needing a transcript.
Webmaster and Shareware Editor Brian Smither announced that he will begin making 10-minute presentations at general meetings of selected shareware programs.
Also, he said efforts are continuing to find a way to restrict access to password-protected areas of the group Web site. The principal problems involve ways to assign, deliver, and manage passwords.
