A group of people from Susanville is interested in becoming a chapter of SPCUG. The Steering Committee decided to review our policies and procedures before deciding the issue.
Treasurer Don Frieze reported a net income of about $400.00 and we are little below budget.
Membership Director Diana DeMuth is resigning from her position as Membership Director no later than March 2002, as well as Publicity Coordinator and Entertainment Software Editor. She describes her Publicity Coordinator duties this way: Upcoming meeting announcements are written by Ken Hopkins and delivered to Tom Anderson, who rewrites them. The announcements are then FAX broadcasted to numerous media contacts. Diana reports that membership is currently 494 with 57 renewals and 5 new members.
The group is going to move the membership’s mail list manager over to the same system as the Officer’s listserve.
Sacra Blue Editor Tom Anderson reports that articles generated from the December and January meeting audio tapes will be written by club volunteers, saving transcription costs. Tim Feldman will start a new column—the first six discusses Linux.
Webmaster Brian Smither reports that current content on SPCUG’s Web site will soon return to password-restricted access. More information is needed regarding our ISP’s capabilities as it relates to CGI scripting and database implementation.
Our insurance policy does not cover personal negligence. It’s expensive. Don Frieze will explore the availability.
SPCUG will begin discussion about accepting donated equipment. We would update and upgrade the system and give it to other charitable organizations.
Scholarship Chairman Don Mongeau has been authorized to announce the availability of two awards at $500 each.
APCUG representative Milt Hull said the APCUG is no longer getting the sponsorship it once enjoyed. In the past, vendors would buy a list of current Group Officers and use that list to contact those groups and arrange for possible presentations. Vendors aren’t buying the list as much anymore. The current APCUG administration is getting concerned about APCUG’s continued existence.
Policies and Procedures have been updated regarding SIGs and Chapters.
- Effective January 1, Chapters/SIGs will abide by the by-laws (reporting requirements, especially) or be summarily dropped. A copy of the P&P and a Letter of Intent will be forwarded to each Chapter/SIG.
- P&P will be updated to explicitly state requirements and reporting dates. Chapters/SIGs must submit their reports by the sixth week after the quarter ends.
