The position of Membership Director needs fresh blood. A likely candidate became alarmed, however, when she learned that the printer used to generate the renewal notices was big and loud. Ron Lambert volunteered a smaller and just a bit quieter printer for the task.
Don Frieze (our Treasurer and the person into whose hands newsletters from other groups are first brought to the Steering Committee meeting) expressed his appreciation to the Sacra Blue editing staff for what he terms, "Excellence in Publishing." He is appalled at the lack of technical quality seen in these other newsletters.
Brian Smither, the group’s Webmaster, is still investigating the procedures and protocols involved with returning portions of our Web site back behind password-protected access. Access will not be cumbersome, and the intent is to rededicate current content in Sacra Blue and eBlue as a tangible benefit of SPCUG membership.
The APCUG is learning the trade-offs associated with contracting with an outside firm to manage certain aspects of your organization and the minor hassles and limitations that go along with it. For a while now, several APCUG officers were using their own equipment to run their Web site, e-mail traffic, and other things. Lately, they’ve been looking for ways to remedy that situation and Milt Hull was finally able to get them interested in letting an established, local ISP handle that type of job. That’s what ISPs do and, for most companies, they do it rather well. But they also place limits on the wild ideas that customers can come up with. Still, the APCUG might try to benefit the same way as the SPCUG is now— Web hosting services being graciously donated by CalWeb. We wish APCUG all the best.
Due to the enhanced efforts of our Public Relations Coordinator, attendance at December’s main meeting was a bit larger than usual (with a welcome above-average number of new memberships). Of course, anytime Microsoft is scheduled to take our stage, word gets out to those who might not otherwise learn of our fine organization. Eric Johnson gave a good, informative overview of Windows XP and everyone got a T-shirt!
If any Sacra Blue readers have an idea for a speaker/presenter you would like to have invited for a future meeting, please contact us. We would love to hear from you.
