Highlights from the February Steering Committee Meeting
|
Elections Are Here!
Even with the California Primary finished, there are still some political decisions to be made—specifically, the Sacramento PC Users Group 2002-2003 Board of Directors. Do you know anyone who has an interest in managing the group? Please, let the Elections Committee know! Contact Ken Hopkins (ken@hopkinscomputing.com) or be sure that you and the person you wish to nominate attend the SPCUG March Main Meeting.
SPCUG Projects
We wish to remind the membership of the current and proposed projects being discussed by the Steering Committee. We are in the process of digitizing all available issues of Sacra Blue, the latest hardcopy issues first, for the eventual creation of the Sacra Blue CD-ROM archive, which will be completely searchable.
And it seems that many of the guest presenters that bring us the fine demonstrations of exciting products and software are requesting capabilities of our video projector that it cannot handle. We are discussing how long we can get by with what we have.
Also, we are revamping the Membership Renewal form. The new form will be easier to print, cheaper, and more legible. Now that we have a new Membership Director, there are certain pieces of equipment and software we may need to acquire. (We have two huge industrial strength Epson dot-matrix printers that may need a new home in the near future. Do you know of an organization that might be able to use these? Let us know!)
Door Prizes
For the past few months, the SPCUG went shopping for giveaways that might not otherwise come our way. Sure, software is always nice, but sometimes its application is outside the interests of the winner. So, we have been buying items that would be sure to enhance the computing experience or improve the workflow of any of our members. Sometimes, there’s a rebate offered. Sorry, members—because you don’t get the receipts, you don’t get the rebates. But the group does. By the way, if anyone is interested in making these shopping trips for the group’s door prizes, let us know!
Mentor List
Sad to say, but the Mentor List is seriously out of date. We need a volunteer to prune obsolete entries and pursue new contacts. We believe the state of the list is so bad, it might explain why we don’t hear of any reports of its usage. Members, this is a precious resource. Please consider volunteering to bring the Mentor List back into its prime!
