Highlights from the April Steering Committee Meeting

Got Your Password?
As was mentioned last month, Brian Smither, the group’s Webmaster, developed a plan that would allow any of our chapters and SIGs to take advantage of Microsoft’s commission-generating on-line store Associates Program. That plan was tested with the cooperation of Orangevale\Folsom’s Webmaster and is ready for full-scale implementation. SPCUG President Milt Hull will activate an account with Microsoft shortly.

The Steering Committee is also ready to re-implement password access to the latest and prior month’s issues of Sacra Blue and eBlue, and the Mentor List. Two programs have been evaluated to manage the password system: PWGen and Gammadyne Mass E-mail system. PWGen has an intriguing set of functions but also has some serious limitations. Gammadyne also has very competent mass e-mail capabilities (to send you your passwords) but also a few missing features. More experiments are on the way.

Regardless, the June issue (this issue!) of Sacra Blue will require a password to access and members who have an e-mail address on file with the group will receive their passwords no later than June 15. For your continued enjoyment of Sacra Blue, it is strongly recommended that we have your e-mail address. Otherwise, a delay in getting your password to you is inevitable. If you do not get a message with your password, send your e-mail address to passmgr@sacpcug.org or membership@sacpcug.org.

Tim Cardozo has graciously accepted responsibility for directing the efforts at upgrading the Mentor List. With a team of three others— Sandra Benward, Doug Hohn, and Jerry Herrigstad— Tim will be contacting members and asking if they would be willing to be a source of information and guidance for programs they are familiar with.
