More Web Sites Worth a Look

Be a Hardware Guru: Tom's Hardware - If you need to keep up on hardware developments, or just want to check out a particular class of items to find the best for your needs, this is a terrific resource. You can get technical specs, reviews, and much more. There's a newsletter you can subscribe to.

Refill That Cartridge: Carrot Ink - This is one of the better sites for buying recycled, refilled inkjet cartridges. BizRate.com ranks them in the top 24 online retailers.

Desktop Wallpapers to Die For: Fyreblade - The stunning images on this site include 50+ free 3D wallpaper images. Subscribing for a year at $9.95 gives you full access to all the images on the site.

Before You Buy…: BBB Online - The online version of the Better Business Bureau is designed to help online consumers. Online vendors can apply for a "reliability seal," helping to insure customers get fair treatment.

Not Enough to Read?: Free Tech Mail - If you're looking for newsletters to keep you informed about any area of the technical computer scene, this is the place to find them. It's a search engine for technical newsletters, and lists hundreds for your edification.

Julie's Tacky Stuff: Tacky Treasures - The "Mark Eden Bust Developer," "The Goldwaters Sing Folk Songs to Bug the Liberals"— these are just the beginning of the treasures Lil Julie has collected.

Cool Software: Tinnes Software - Totally free software, including a tool to generate realistic-looking but phony error messages, stick art, auto-insult generators, and more.

Wanna Learn XUL?: XUL Planet - Mozilla, the open source browser that is largely sponsored by Netscape, has developed some interfaces that allow non-programmers to create add-ons very simply. At least, that's what they claim. Here's a tutorial on XUL (pronounced zool), the language that makes it possible.

Free Blog Tool: Foshdawg - You probably know that blog is short for Web log, or a sort of online diary. Most of the tools available require you to post to a blogger site, but this Perl script named Grey Matter lets you post to your own site very simply: Just go to your Web page, select "Add a new entry," and type away. The script adds the date, time, and other necessary information. A number of templates are included, which can be modified by anyone knowing a little HTML.

P*** Away Your Time: Urinal.net - Tasteless? Undoubtedly. But your travels on the Internet just wouldn't be complete without a stop at the world-famous site to commemorate memorable urinals across the U.S.

For Streisand Fans Only: Barbra File - It's not my cup of tea, but if you're obsessed with Streisand (and far too many people are), you'll enjoy this site by another obsessed Barbra fan. Chronology, discography, quotations, and more.

The Food Timeline: Morris County Library - This site is a bit unusual: it's a historical timeline of food showing when foods were invented or discovered, what Columbus brought on his voyage, who first ate sushi,; did you know marshmallows date to 2,000 B.C.?

Women's Passions and Politics: Soapbox Girls - Opinions and real-life stories of women's experiences. You can read what others have to say, or post your own experiences and opinions. It's one of the more attractive sites for discussion and commentary that I've seen.

Best History Sites - It's intended mostly for students and educators, but Best History Sites is a treasure for history buffs. Choose the period of history, and you'll find links to the best sites that relate to that time and place. They're rated for usefulness and accuracy. Teachers can find materials for planning classes, too.

BeaterZ - A tribute to atrocious autos, the twisted, beaten up, but still running hulks that haunt our streets. These are the cars that make you wonder how they're still moving.

Krazy Kats: Cat Boxing - Yes, they're really catfights, and yes, they're really cats— the furry kind. At least, most of them are. There's a guinea pig involved, too. I don't understand the point of this one, and I don't have any idea who'd go to this site, but then I went.
