On May 6, 2003 at 7:00 P.M, DIG’s held it regular monthly meeting at it’s new Location. The Maidu Community Center’s Senior Wing, at 1550 Maidu Drive on Rocky Ridge Rd. in Roseville.
The meeting started with a discussion about printer and their different merits. Was it cheaper to buy a new printer than have your old one repaired? A single color cartridges versus a single multi color cartridge versus a continuation flow system? The new practice of some companies putting chips into their cartridge’s so they can not be refilled by third party refill companies and other issues. The general consensus was that each issue had to be weigh against how the printer was to be used. For home or business such as text, greeting card, color prints, banners or other uses?
The group has been discussing the problems of how to have their printed pictures look like their monitors. So, a monitor was brought to the meeting to be calibrated and profiled, as this is one of the requirements that is needed to create a monitor to print match. Using a software program called Colorific, a visual method of calibrating and profiling a monitor was demonstrated. It can be quite effective and can be used by most people that want to calibrate and profile their monitors. The professional approach of using hardware with its higher cost was also discussed.
