At our April meeting we opened nominations for chapter officers. I will be standing down as president, after serving in that office for quite a few years; but I accepted a nomination for the post of vice president. In turn, Dave Eden, our current vice president, accepted a nomination for the office of president. Tony Barcellos accepted re-nomination for the combined offices of secretary and treasurer. Nominations are still open; all members in good standing are eligible. Nominations will be closed at our May meeting, then we will hold the elections and the winners will take office at our June meeting.
I've recently started using a Web search engine called Google, and I recommend it highly. It has a clean, simple interface, it runs quickly, and it delivers relevant "hits" quite often, on a very wide range of search subjects. This is because it uses a clever search strategy: It ranks the results based on how many other sites are linked to a site, and on how many other sites are linked to those sites. So, its rankings quantify a kind of iterative peer

review process that is constantly updating itself. It's my main search engine now; check it out at www.google.com .
At our April meeting, Dave Eden presented "Utilities, Part Deux", a continuation of a series of demonstrations that he started several months ago. For this episode, Dave showed us four nice free utilities that expand the capabilities of the right mouse button in Windows 95. You can also find all of these free utilities by searching www.zdnet.com . You may need to supply an email address, to use zdnet; Dave suggests checking out the free email addresses available at www.yahoo.com .
We liked Dave's presentation, and we hope that he'll continue this series on useful freebies.
Our next meeting will be held on schedule, at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 26, at the usual meeting place: the Davis branch of the Yolo County Public Library. Please come on down and participate in the election, and have a good time at the meeting!
