Gary Sloan, our newly-elected chapter president, opened our April meeting at the Computer Renaissance store in Citrus Heights. The meeting site was arranged by chapter vice president Guy Manwaring, which wasn't a problem because Guy owns Computer Renaissance. The attendees were pleasantly surprised to see more than a dozen monitors that displayed the two Internet programs Guy demonstrated for us. These programs included Copernic, a tool for searching with multiple search engines, and Go!zilla, a program that lets you resume file downloading if your connection gets interrupted. The best part about these tools are that they're both free and they have a lot of class. Both programs also have very good online tours and troubleshooting help files if you become stuck.
Copernic is really effective in searching for information on any subject. It provides access to some 30 information sources such as AltaVista, Deja News, Excite, HotBot, Infoseek, Lycos, Magellan, WebCrawler and

Yahoo! It also features a search wizard, a category bar, keyword highlighting in result lists and downloaded documents, a detailed search history, and many other useful search management tools. Copernic99 digs deep into search engines to get the number of results you need (up to 300 per engine), allows full customizing of how you display search results, and more.
Go!zilla claims to download files from the most efficient site, resume interrupted downloads where they left off, automatically connect to the Internet, download, and can disconnect when it's done. Go!zilla will even shut down your computer when all tasks have been done, if you want. Resuming interrupted files can save your sanity if your ISP disconnects you after an hour of downloading.
Our next chapter meeting will be on Thursday, June 3 at Placer Savings Bank in Roseville. See you there.
