A New Training Media Librarian

We had been looking for a new training media librarian for several months since Chuck Benward announced that he would have to give up the position due to his job relocation out of state last month. As I was bringing this issue up to the Steering Committee meeting last month, I was pleasantly surprised when Mary Lint said she would take the position. Volunteers come forth a the least expected times, I’ve learned. Mary has been active in many volunteer positions within the SPCUG from an advertising representative to helping other volunteers get started in their new positions. Mary has been there for us, and she’s come through again. Thank you, Mary.
Although we have filled most of the vacated positions since I started this job a year ago, there are several positions that no one has had an interest in. I have been bothered by the lack of interest in the jobs that I and other officers have repeatedly made announcements about. I have come to the conclusion that maybe these jobs are not necessary or have become out of favor amongst the members in this new age of user groups. I also don’t like to see something not being accomplished after a reasonable amount of time has passed.
So, at the April Steering Committee meeting, I proposed that we eliminate these positions by rolling them into other already filled and active positions. Some of these jobs are already being done by someone in another position (Advertising Manager), and some of them were created out of committees, but never got off the ground (Educational Outreach Coordinator). These jobs could be revived if someone becomes interested or we found that we can’t live without them. This will clear up the clutter of unfilled positions and put more importance on the ones we really need to fill (right now, that’s the editor’s position).
The Steering Committee agreed and gave me the go-ahead. Now, the unfilled positions you will see here this month, and from now on, are very important to the SPCUG.

Please ask your friends if they have any experience and time to give to these jobs. We also still need an associate editor and several more meeting reporters. Marsha Leonard is no longer benefits coordinator, since she’s now membership director, and we need a replacement. Help! Help! Help!
I am sure you will find volunteer work for the group very rewarding, and it could even create some interesting opportunities for you. You may be surprised how little time is involved in some of the positions that hold great benefit for the group. Please take a look at the job openings below. If you think you can help the group, give me a call at 916-921-6414 or send e-mail to hawk@ardennet.com, and let’s talk.

Sacra Blue Editor: Our newsletter editor puts together the newsletter every month under a strict production cycle. This includes acquiring articles, artwork, and photos, editing the final layout of the newsletter, supervising the proofreading and editing process, printing out the master copy of the newsletter, delivering the master copy to the printer, and preparing copy for eBlue .

Sacra Blue Associate Editor: The newsletter’s associate editor performs newsletter duties delegated by the editor to make the editor’s life a little easier.

Product Review Coordinator: The product review coordinator receives software and books, maintains a status list of the available and delivered products, and disburses these same software and books to members in exchange for a product review to be submitted to the editor for publication.

Meeting Reporters: Meeting reporters transcribe audiotapes of the meeting to the lead meeting reporter, who edits and forwards them to the editor for submission in the newsletter. Several reporters are usually needed to cover the entire evening’s meeting, and quick turnaround is a must.
