The May 6 Internet SIG meeting opened to a packed house. SIG president Ken Hale had Al Leon scheduled to give a demonstration on Yahoo Pager, but with no Internet access, he was limited to showing us some of the documentation on it. Although he did a admirable job, we're all looking forward to next month when he hooks up with a friend in Eureka and shows what it can do.
Our chapter's main meeting on Wednesday, May 7 was devoted to file management, which, like housekeeping, is a necessary evil that only certain people enjoy doing.

We also talked about the advantages and disadvantages of a cache-the files your Internet browser saves on your hard drive to speed up downloading of pages. The advantage is that it speeds up access time, especially if you visit the same pages frequently. The disadvantage is, especially in the case of Microsoft's Internet Explorer 5, those files can get out of control. I don't use Internet Explorer that much, but I had 5 directories with 1,650 files each in my cache directory! I don't know about you, but I don't like the thought of defragmenting 7,000 files.
The Internet SIG will meet at 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, July 6 at the Superintendent of Schools, Nevada City. Bring your questions. The Main meeting will be at 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, July 7 at the Helling Library at Eric Rood Center. Everyone is invited to come and share ideas and thoughts.
