At promptly 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 15, chapter president Dick Towle started the Auburn chapter's June meeting with a welcome and introduction of new members and guests.
Dick demonstrated Spell Catcher which resides on the task bar and responds immediately when typing a word that is incorrect, giving one the opportunity of correcting immediately, rather than waiting until finished and then performing a spell check, which is an option if one wishes to do batch spell checking. This program includes scientific, medial, legal, and HTML dictionaries. Spell Catcher also contains a thesaurus. A $59 copy of this program was won by one of our members, as were many other prizes.

Dick also demonstrated ZTree, a replacement (and improvement) for the no-longer- available XTree. One of the questions asked early in the Beginners SIG was how to copy longer files than would fit on a 1.44 MB floppy disk, and one answer was to utilize the split-file utility of ZTree. This feature lets the user put in disks until ZTree finishes saving the file across several disks. When you copy the floppy, ZTree automatically prompts you to put in subsequent disks until the entire file has been copied.
Chapter secretary Ken Weger reminded everyone that our regular third Tuesday meeting in July will be changed Wednesday, July 21, because of a scheduling conflict with the meeting room. Don’t forget to always check with our chapter’s Web page for updated information.
