A Thank You to Eric Butow

As most of you know by now, our Sacra Blue editor, Eric Butow, will be passing his blue pencil on to our new editor, Chris Graillat. Eric has been a SPCUG volunteer for at least 2˝ years to the best of my knowledge, spending all of that time as our editor and holding several other job titles or volunteer slots along the way. Eric has even been the volunteer coordinator, passing the job on to me only so that he could take on even more work as our advertising manager, product review coordinator, and Educational Outreach Committee chairperson.

And More
Eric was very visible on the SPCUG Futures Committee, and continues to be so in helping to find a direction for the group's next change of course, if needed. Implementing his own ideas, Eric has produced several surveys including the one on ISPs in this month's issue. The most important of the surveys he developed was probably the one that displayed in Sacra Blue over a year ago—the survey that provided the Futures Committee with information to make the great changes we have been going through this last year. Thanks, Eric, for a job very well done and for the 40+ hours a month you put into SPCUG volunteer work.

New Volunteers
I'd like to welcome new volunteers Chris Graillat and Dion Gomez (Dion is our new associate editor). Your generous spirits are, and will continue to be, appreciated by those that depend on getting their copies of Sacra Blue and eBlue each month. Long time member Gary Sloan will take over the Meeting Recorder position from Robert West. Mary Lint was responsible for helping us with this transition on very short notice, when Robert realized that he may be leaving the area.

Terry Naleway has volunteered some time in helping us with meeting transcription, and Richard Swarthout is our new Assistant Training Media Librarian. At the Steering Committee, Frank Leonard proposed the idea of SPCUG Internet Setup Volunteers (ISVs) that would help members set up their computers to access the Internet: Edwin Holloway, Diana DeMuth, Roy Korb, Ron Lambert, John Crow, and Tom Anderson immediately stepped up to the plate. Thank you Robert, Gary, Mary, Terry, Richard, Edwin, Diana, Roy, Ron, John, and Tom for your interest in the continuing growth of the SPCUG.

Volunteers Needed
I am sure you will find volunteer work for the group very rewarding, and it could even create some interesting opportunities for you. You may be surprised how little time is involved in some of the positions that hold great benefit for the group. Please take a look at the new job openings mentioned below. If you think you can help the group, give me a call at 916-921-6414 or drop me an e-mail at stan@gohawk.com and let's talk about it.

Educational Training Committee—Edwin Holloway is asking for members to help him with a new project that involves putting on a Computer Training and Swap Meet event to be held in September. This is a new and very adventurous step for the SPCUG to take in improving our service to the community. So, if you want to get involved in some highly interesting and most likely enjoyable volunteer work, contact Edwin at edwin@calweb.com .

Meeting Transcribers—The meeting transcribers take notes during the general meeting to be delivered to the lead meeting reporter, who edits and forwards them to the Sacra Blue editor for submission in the monthly newsletter. Several reporters are usually needed to cover the entire evening's meeting; each transcriber usually gets one part of the general meeting (business, speaker 1, etc.) to transcribe. Contact editor Chris Graillat at chrisngraham@jps.net for more information.
