Internet/Intranet Design Shop Gold 98: A PCWeek Winner's Circle Best of the Best

Boomerang Software's Web Creation Program

Reviewed by J.R.Green

My ability to code HTML is rudimentary at best, but with the tools of Boomerang Software's Internet/Intranet Design Shop Gold 98, my Web site, which I am currently completing, will look quite professional. Boomerang Software does not just brag about the product it calls "The Most Comprehensive Web Site Creation, Management and Publishing Program for Windows," it backs this claim up. Any aspect of Web site creation is managed with aplomb because of this Web builder's awarding-winning feature set and ease of use.

The feature list is quite extensive. Here are just a few of the highlights: it is fully WYSIWYG and it has a full multiframe generator, a professional Grade site manager and an auto-CGI script generator. It also supports Java, AVI and many other multimedia formats. The package includes a double CD, printed Quick Start Guide, a User's Manual (for detailed reference) and a pleasant bonus that just blew me away. Those who collect the famous Beanie Babies will also appreciate the bonus-a limited edition puppy with a serial number in the box.

The package is so good, PCWEEK voted IlDS Gold a Winner's Circle Best of the Best at PC Expo 1998. The program requires no previous experience with HTML coding ability, so anyone can use it. Since the program functions for intranets, it is quite practical for small to large businesses on a local area network. I found the Quick Start Guide to be very helpful in establishing familiarity with the program in rapid fashion.

There are numerous uses besides site creation that are possible with this creative tool. For instance, you can do graphics editing using MGI Photo Suite (included in the package), business graphics (dozens of 2D and 3D charts available), imbed graphics or use sound and animation. There is also a multimedia image cataloger for keeping track of your image library.

The suggested retail for the full 32bit version as reviewed is $139.95 and it is worth every cent. I heartily rate this as a buy for anyone wanting to create professional-looking and functioning Web sites. Nothing currently comes close. All in all, this is a must-buy product for what you are able to do with this software.

Note: My extended review will be available in the near future with greater detail once my system is back online after a recent hardware crash.
