Top-notch presentation
The August meeting had the best turnout we have had in recent memory.
On top of that, a company that produces training films came to videotape
the proceedings. What a shame that three of the four presenters reneged
on their promise to be there. We had a wonderful meeting despite that.
Connecting to the Internet at more than 56Kbps is a very hot topic.
Ken Hopkins and Milt Hull, our Program Directors, did an outstanding job
putting together a presentation. Many of you who attended have
commented to me on how you enjoyed the show. We plan to have similar
offerings down the road, so if you missed this presentation, look for
another sometime in the not-too-distant future. [Our eBlue team hopes
to post the August POWER POINT presentation on our Web site as well, so
look for it there-Ed.]
CalWeb Bought Out: SPCUG Services Uninterrupted
For those of you who keep track of Sacramento financial news, you know
that CalWeb Communications was purchased recently by a large company in
Colorado. Robert Du Gaue, founder and now manager of CalWeb, assures us
that all the services we have learned to depend upon will continue,
unchanged. CalWeb handles our Web site and two discussion groups
(listservs). It was no surprise to most of us that CalWeb rated so
highly in the survey we ran in July. In a recent message from Robert,
he told me things could only get better. We look forward to a lasting
relationship with Robert and CalWeb.

The PC Jamboree: Our Latest Training Event
It has always been a concern of mine that the club (currently) does so
little in the area of training. I get comments from various members
that training classes are needed, while the old-timers in the club
remind me that we used to have fairly regular training classes. For the
first time in a very long time we will be trying out a new training
event on Saturday, September 18, at the PC Jamboree. If the PC Jamboree
goes over as well as I expect, we can continue to offer similar events
to our members. Of course, in order to do so, we will need folks who
will help put it all together-along with folks who will attend to learn
more about software and hardware. So, we'll see you there!
