Import and Export Features of Microsoft Outlook
Because it comes with Microsoft Office, many people are using Outlook as their default e-mail package.

Microsoft Office has a calendar, a contact list, an inbox, a journal, notes and a task list. The one really nice feature is, of course, that it can Import and Export to many other packages as well as to Microsoft products. For example, I used to use Ecco 4.2 for my calendar and contact list. Once I started using an Exchange Server on the backside of my e-mail, I wanted to transfer all my contacts over to Exchange. That way it would be backed up each night.

All I did was Import from Ecco right into my contacts folder located through my Exchange Folder. It took just a little converting because Ecco can hold so many items. I had to map home and work addresses and birthdays, faxes, phone numbers, and so forth. All in all, it was very simple. It took around five minutes to transfer 353 items. I ended up with a better way of viewing my contacts as well as having them available in my e-mail lists.

I did the same with my Calendar that I used to use in the same Ecco Package. The Import went very well. Some of the other Import translations it does are Act, Comma Delimited Values, Dbase, Lotus Organizer, Access, Excel, FoxPro, Microsoft Mail (yuk), Personal Address List, Personal Folders (.pst), Schedule Plus, Sidekick and Tab Separated List. As far as the Exporting is concerned, many of the above are included as well as the Data Link to the Timex Data Link Watch.

One task I completed just this last month was to transfer data on the phases of the moon over to Outlook. I created another Calendar called "Moon Phases" just under the normal calendar. Then I created a Comma Delimited File with all the important data in it and then Imported the text into the Calendar.

One of the things I did not mention is the fact that you can Import other e-mail messages from many other e-mail packages as well. If you are using Eudora, Outlook Express, Netscape Mail, Internet Explorer Mail or whatever, there is a way to convert it into Outlook.

All in all, it is a great package and I would have to say, that I use it more than any other package today.
