Volunteers Pull Together Quickly for Another Event

Volunteers represent SPCUG at community-outreach events such as BizTech.
SPCUG Staffs a BizTech Booth
Buzz Gallardo wanted us to participate in the BizTech show last month on Oct. 20-21. It was Eric Butow, in the role of Public Relations Coordinator, that made the initial contact with Buzz. Frank Leonard, in his role as Trade Show Coordinator, quickly mobilized a group of volunteers to produce a piece of carpet (Ed Shurtleff ), a slide show (Tim Cardozo), advertising (Brian Smither and Chris Graillat) and nine booth staffers (Marsha Leonard, Chuck Sinclair, Gary Sloan, Tim Cardozo, Ed Morrison, Tom Anderson, Frank Leonard, Don Frieze and Jonathan Bernard). That's the way the volunteer effort works around the SPCUG.

New Volunteers
Steve Favis is our newest volunteer. Steve will be joining the other members of the eBlue Web Team. All he needed was some HTML editing experience and a few hours of time available each month. His help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Steve. If you have a desire to learn basic HTML in an effort to help us with this project, then contact Chris Graillat. I'm sure we can find someone to teach you basic HTML editing.

Volunteer Activity
The PC Jamboree went off as planned, due in great part to the efforts of co-chairs Beth Camero and Edwin Holloway. We attracted four new members, two new Jamboree volunteers, and over $300 in revenue. The classes were full and the repair clinic was very active. Scott Newkirk of the PC Media School worked along with Wes Doak and Steve Favis came on his own behalf as a vendor. SPCUG volunteers were Kathy Anderson, Jonathan Bernard, Eric Butow, Beth Camero, Dennis Duffy, Mike Evans, Hays T. Fisher, Crystal Friedrichs, Don Frieze, Chris Graillat, Carol Harris, Milt Hull, Roy Korb, Ron Lambert, Brian Lavender, Frank Leonard, Marsha Leonard, Mary Lint, Mike Machado, Dennis Richardson and Harry Souder.

New Job Openings
We are going to need a new Lead Meeting Reporter to take notes during the General Meeting, to be edited and delivered to the Sacra Blue Editor for submission in the monthly newsletter and eBlue. Edwin Holloway has been doing this job, as well as the Training Coordinator position and the enormous new effort called the PC Jamboree. Contact Chris Graillat.

Other Openings
I am sure you will find volunteer work for the group very rewarding, and it could even create some interesting opportunities for you. You may be surprised how much little time is involved in some of the positions that hold great benefit for the group. Please take a look at the NEW job openings below. If you think you can help the group, give me a call or drop me an e-mail and let's talk about it.

Publicity Chairperson Assistants. This position involves contacting newspapers, periodicals, TV and institutions in an effort to give the SPCUG publicity, general exposure and a means to interact with the community. Contact Eric Butow if you can help.

Chapter Coordinator. This position involves contacting and reporting on our group's chapter organizations. Contact Frank Leonard for more details and requirements.

Managing Editors. This job involves making calls to people who have pledged to write articles and review software and hardware to remind them when their contributions are due. When software or books have been borrowed and not reviewed, the managing editor attempts to retrieve the software or books. Contact Chris Graillat.

Web Team Members. We can always use more members for the eBlue Web Team. If you have some HTML editing experience, your help is greatly needed. If you don't and you just have a desire to learn basic HTML in an effort to help us, contact Chris Graillat and we will teach you basic HTML editing for this project at the monthly General Meeting.

Meeting Transcribers. The meeting transcribers can take notes during the General Meeting to be delivered to the Lead Meeting Reporter, who edits and forwards them to the Sacra Blue Editor for submission in the monthly newsletter. Several reporters are usually needed to cover the entire evening's meeting. You may also put together a report on one part of the General Meeting. Contact Chris Graillat.
