Volunteers again represent SPCUG in the community and there are more positions to fill within the group.

Wine, Dine and Travel Auction
Ken Hopkins volunteered again this year to arrange volunteers for the KVIE TV fund drive. KVIE, a local and public TV station, depends on volunteers to help with the annual fund drive (a major source of revenue). This year, Ken signed us up for the Wine, Dine and Travel Auction. Our time slot was from 7:15 p.m. until midnight on Sunday, October 24. We needed between 18-25 volunteers for this event and you, the volunteers, came through. Much thanks to Ken and volunteers Jennifer Hopkins, Hays L. Fisher, Tim Cardozo, Gordon Taylor, Diana DeMuth, Frank Leonard, Don Frieze, Chris Graillat, Jonathan Bernard, Gary Sloan, Gordon Adams, Beth Camero, Steve Farvis and Tom Anderson.
New Volunteers
Dene Dachner, our newest volunteer, will join the eBlue Web Team. Welcome aboard, Dene. Also, Eric Butow has come forth to take over the SIG Coordinator position vacated by Chuck Sinclair; Eric will also take on the Chapter Coordinator position vacated by Larry Lewis. This is in addition to Eric's public Relations duties. Eric will need more help with all of the above positions. If you would like to join him, contact him at Eric Butow. Thanks Chuck, Larry and Eric.
Volunteer Activity
Eric Butow has been very busy sending out press releases. I received this note from Eric recently: "The other day I sent off about 30 press releases to various media outlets and I intend to send even more out in the coming days. I also plan to put a January meeting blurb in California Computer News; we're too late for December but we did get our blurb into the November issue. I also sent off e-mails to all the chapters and SIGs; so far only one chapter and four SIGs have responded. I expect to send out snail mail letters soon to those chapters and SIGs that have not responded." Good going, Eric!
New Job Openings
We are going to need a new Educational Training Coordinator. This job, vacated by Edwin Holloway, involves bringing together a group of volunteers that can deliver educational training in several formats to our members and the public. We currently have Dennis Duffy as the Training Instructor and Ron Lambert as the Equipment Coordinator. They run the monthly tutorial held before each General meeting. We also have Beth Camero as the Jamboree Coordinator. Your job would be to work with Beth, Ron and Dennis on improving and expanding the outreach effort. Thanks for your service, Edwin.
Other Openings
I am sure you will find volunteer work for the group very rewarding, and it could even create some interesting opportunities for you. You may be surprised how much little time is involved in some of the positions that hold great benefit for the group. Please take a look at the NEW job openings below. If you think you can help the group, give me a call or drop me an e-mail and let's talk about it.
Publicity Chairperson Assistants. This position involves contacting newspapers, periodicals, TV and institutions in an effort to give the SPCUG publicity, general exposure and a means to interact with the community. Contact Eric Butow if you can help.
Lead Meeting Reporter..You would take notes during the General Meeting, which would be edited and delivered to the Sacra Blue Editor for submission in the monthy newsletter and eBlue. Contact Chris Graillat.
Managing Editors. This job involves making calls to people who have pledged to write articles and review software and hardware to remind them when their contributions are due. When software or books have been borrowed and not reviewed, the managing editor attempts to retrieve the software or books. Contact Chris Graillat.
Web Team Members. We can always use more members for the eBlue Web Team. If you have some HTML editing experience, your help is greatly needed. If you don't and you just have a desire to learn basic HTML in an effort to help us, contact Chris Graillat and we will teach you basic HTML editing for this project at the monthly General Meeting.
Meeting Transcribers. The meeting transcribers can take notes during the General Meeting to be delivered to the Lead Meeting Reporter, who edits and forwards them to the Sacra Blue Editor for submission in the monthly newsletter. Several reporters are usually needed to cover the entire evening's meeting. You may also put together a report on one part of the General Meeting to be submitted to the Editor. Contact Chris Graillat.
