The Sacramento PC Users Group Shareware Librarian searches the World Wide Web looking for innovative and worthwhile software. The following file descriptions may be helpful in determining if any of these programs would be helpful to you.
Each volume is available as a set of 3.5" diskettes or, available on a 100MB Iomega ZIP disk, most of the Windows95/98 volumes, either of which may be purchased at the SPCUG Main Meeting.
Volume 00
Volume 00 consists of 3 disks which contain the library index and various
utilities for use with library disks.
Disk 0a is the principal guide to the changing contents of the library and
contains: LIBRARY.DOC, a plain text listing of the library contents in
numerical order with a category index, LIBRARY.ZIP, an archive of files
describing each of the disks in the library, and miscellaneous utilities to
allow you to read or print the descriptions in the LIBRARY.ZIP file.
Disk 0b includes utilities to assist you in using the library files:
PKZ204G.EXE, a self-extracting archive of the current version of PKZIP and
PKUNZIP. To use these programs, copy PKZ204G.EXE to an empty directory and run
it by typing PKZ204G. The file will unzip itself into a number of files
including an instruction manual which can be printed, LIST90E.ZIP, which is
perhaps the best file viewer available. Unarchive it by typing "PKUNZIP
LIST90E". An instruction manual is also included for this program.
Disk 0c includes files needed with some of the shareware programs in the
library. Many Windows programs are written in Visual Basic, and therefore
require the presence (in your \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory) of the appropriate
VBRUNx00.DLL file. The documentation for each disk will tell you whether you
need VBRUN100.DLL, VBRUN200.DLL, or VBRUN300.DLL. Also on this disk are
BWCC.DLL, needed with Windows programs created using Borland C++, and
PICCLIP.VBX, a Visual Basic custom control used by occasional programs.

Fractal Worlds I uses some of the ideas behind the mathematical theory of
fractal sets in order to generate an amazing variety of beautiful patterns;
sometimes a bit chaotic sometimes more organised.
Fractal Worlds II similar to Fractal Worlds I, but with different effects.
Grow Shapes I & II has a wide variety of shapes 'growing' at random.
Hexxes move across the screen just missing each other. (Do they rotate?) They
leave behind them colour trails producing a continuously changing pattern.
Mandelbrot is an example of amazing images produced by applying the mathematics
of fractals, but very different from "Fractal Worlds". First the full fractal
is shown then the image is dissolved and then a smaller part is shown on a
larger scale. This process is repeated focusing in a randomly selected point
in the border area of the fractal; showing detail within detail, form within
form, the whole repeated within a part.
Mondrian is an attempt to simulate the painter in his mature style. (Are the
generated pictures as good, or even better than the real thing?)
Runel moves and twists across the screen painting and re-painting in various
modes, producing a wide range of pattern and colour effects.
